Terms of Service

Last updated: October 15, 2026

These terms apply to your use of Marginalia, a workspace for reviewing story continuity. By using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Your account

Provide accurate account information and keep your password and provider credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, change your password and revoke affected API keys with their providers.

Your writing belongs to you

You retain ownership of the writing and other content you submit. You give Marginalia permission to store and process that content, and send the necessary content to your selected AI provider, solely to operate the features you request. You must have permission to submit and process the content you upload.

AI checks and your decisions

Findings, extracted facts, and suggestions may be inaccurate or incomplete. Review the original passages before relying on a result. You remain responsible for edits, review decisions, chapter approvals, and any publication of your work. Marginalia does not guarantee that a check will identify every inconsistency.

Provider credentials and costs

AI operations require a configured provider and a valid API key. You are responsible for complying with that provider's terms and paying any usage charges it applies. Availability, rate limits, and results depend in part on external services.

Acceptable use

  • Do not upload content you have no right to use or content that violates applicable law.
  • Do not attempt to access another person's account, stories, or credentials.
  • Do not bypass security controls, disrupt the service, or use it to distribute malicious code.

Availability and responsibility

The service is provided as available, without a promise of uninterrupted operation or error-free results. Keep your own copies of important writing. Features may change or become unavailable. Access may be restricted to address abuse, security issues, or violations of these terms.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Marginalia's operator is not responsible for indirect losses arising from service interruptions, inaccurate AI results, or third-party services. These terms do not exclude rights or responsibilities that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Privacy, questions, and updates

Read the Privacy Policy to understand how account information, stories, and provider keys are processed. For questions about these terms, contact the operator of your instance through the channel where they provided you access.

These terms may be updated as the service changes. Review this page before continuing to use the service after an update. The date above identifies the latest revision.
